The Heart of Church Membership

At HBC, church membership is about more than just being part of a group; it's about entering a covenant relationship with other believers, rooted in love and commitment. As Christians, we belong to one another as part of the body of Christ, supporting each other, growing together, and living out our faith. Membership is a way to actively engage with God’s plan for His church and our individual spiritual journeys.

Why Church Membership?  

The local church is one of the most powerful ways we grow as followers of Jesus. Central to meeting with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is the gathering of the church, where his Word is read, prayed, preached, sung and seen (in Communion and Baptism). Church membership allows us to commit to a community of Believers where we are helped to follow Jesus through careful encouragement and challenge.

Discipleship: The Calling and the Cost

Being a disciple of Jesus isn't always easy - it requires sacrifice and commitment. But it is the path to true life and joy, both now and in eternity. Church membership helps us walk this road together, supporting one another as we grow, struggle, and persevere in our faith.

Living Out Our Faith Together

As members of HBC, we are encouraged to live out our faith in practical ways: 

• Be a true follower of Jesus - Committing to repentance, faith, and baptism.
   
• Grow spiritually - Prioritise daily prayer and Bible study.
   
• Live consistently as a follower of Jesus - Obeying His commands and living out His love.
   
• Worship together regularly - Being part of our Sunday gatherings for mutual encouragement.
   
• Share Christ with others - Both through our actions and words, making an impact in our community and beyond.
   
• Fellowship meaningfully - Engaging in midweek groups, building relationships, and encouraging each other.
   
• Serve with our gifts - Using our talents to build up the church and serve others.
   
• Give generously - Supporting the church's work financially as an act of worship.
   
• Take responsibility in church life - Participating in decision-making and seeking God’s wisdom together.
   
• Honour and support church leaders - Encouraging those who serve and lead within the church.

The Role of Grace

We believe that grace is at the heart of everything we do. Membership isn't about earning favour or meeting expectations - it’s about responding to God’s generous love and living out the faith He’s given us. Our actions flow from His grace, not our merit, which frees us to serve and grow joyfully in Him.
