Financial Giving at HBC

We see the opportunity to give generously as something that comes out of the fact that in Jesus Christ, God has given generously to us.

All we do as a church is paid for by those who are part of the church and who want to people of all ages know and follow Jesus. The money we have used in the following ways:

• Discipleship & Missional Living:                   
  Our Pastor is entirely supported by our gifts. This frees him for the full-time work of preaching, teaching, pastoring and leadership. Our youth and children’s ministry is financed by the church fellowship and so too all the resources that are needed to help Believers grow in their faith.
• Partnership:               
  A significant part of our giving goes to God’s work outside of our fellowship. Through our mission giving we’re able to partner with individuals and organisations working to make Jesus known overseas as well as in the UK.

• Reaching Out:            
  We support a wide range of other outreach activities, including our Toddler Club, evangelistic initiatives and one-off events that help us to share Jesus with others.
• Premises:                   
  We have a large and well-used suite of buildings together with housing for our Pastor. These need to be constantly maintained and occasionally improved so that the Lord’s work will not be hindered by poor facilities or equipment.
• Administration:                     
  An active and growing church needs good communication and administration. Publicity, pastoral resources, office services, technical equipment and training are all needed to help ensure that the church is both effective and efficient in its ministry.

The Bible teaches that followers of Jesus should give financially to God’s work through their local church. Paul in 2 Corinthians gives us a number of principles to follow from the example of the Christians in Macedonia.  He writes that they gave, even in the midst of their suffering:

• liberally and joyfully (8:2)
• generously and freely (8:3)
• in proportion to their ability (8:12)

As a result, they:

• reaped according to the measure that they had sowed (9:6)
• God richly blessed their cheerful willingness (9:7) and
• many others were blessed through their giving (9:12)
